TOUR DIARY & PHOTOS
The next tour diary starts now. How goes it, you ask? It goes well, on MOST fronts. Other than Chad being confined to his room for a perfectly good day off in beautiful Austin, Rick (our guitar tech) projectile vomiting, me coughing up blood, and Chip devouring expectorants, all is very well. You see, being confined to a 15 passenger van seems to be a breeding ground for sickness. The germs are like the energizer bunny.

STUDIO DIARY 2005 - ENTRY #7
The topic today is “A Mixed Album:” We now have a new one of these… almost. The actual songs are all mixed. We’ve just got a few little things to do. Therefore, the record is pretty close to being finished. We are working on some intervals between tunes, but the real songs are complete. The whole thing is yet to be sequenced and mastered of course, but we are closer than ever. We’re not releasing most of the song titles to you yet because we are stubborn. Plus, there are a handful of demos flying around the web that people have been confusing for album tracks. We’ll let them stay confused for a while. We can say that the record will have somewhere between 9 and 13 songs on it. We’ve decided to shoot for quality over quantity on this record. Who needs 14 songs anyways?
STUDIO DIARY 2005 - ENTRY #6
Mixing is going great. There are only a few songs left to go and then we are finished. Today, we are working on a track that I am pretty certain everyone will dig. I'm excited about this record for many reasons. One thing that i'm excited about is that this thing does not really sound like much else
MORE CITY OF CHAMPIONS TOURDATES ANNOUNCED
More confirmed dates of the CITY OF CHAMPIONS TOUR have been posted on the TOUR page - including the tour ending hometown show in Pittsburgh.
STUDIO DIARY 2005 - ENTRY #5
Ok. Mixing has begun. I’m %99.93 done singing. I’d be in LA right now mixing this thing with John Travis, but we have a show on Tuesday. I guess I have to be here rehearsing for that. As soon as the show is over though, I fly to the city of angels to finalize the mixes.
STUDIO DIARY 2005 - ENTRY #4
We’ve recovered from the hard drive dying. All was lost, but all was not lost. We’ve picked up the pieces (of audio) and moved on. Backing vocals is what these last few days have been all about. I’ve been singing a lot of them. Kosker has sung a good bit too. And, today, Chad laid down a part. Vocally, this might be more sparse than our last few records. It’s hard to say.
STUDIO DIARY 2005 - ENTRY #3
Yesterday, here at Studio 66, things got a little interesting. We have been due our major equipment malfunction, and it finally happened yesterday. Not only did my main firewire hard drive short out (shooting sparks and smoking), but in attempts to repair it, ANOTHER drive went down for the count. My assistant/engineer Steve and I spent all day long taking apart drives, downloading programs, calling tech geeks, and staring 4 different computer screens.
STUDIO DIARY 2005 - ENTRY #2
You know what? I’m getting somewhere. When I wrote that last studio diary, I think I was in a bit of a funk. These things happen when you spend 14 hours a day working in a room by yourself on your own songs. Things are sounding good though. Today, among other things, I finished the lead vocal on a song called “Leave Like a Ghost.” I like this one. It’s a tune to play while you roll along the 101 in southern California with your top down. It’s one of the more upbeat numbers on the record and features some great lead guitar work by Mr. Kosker in the chorus. The song certainly harkens back to the old Juliana days. That being said though, it was the hardest song to track in the studio because I kept wanting to change major things about it. The band was starting to get frustrated with me, but I swear it will be all worth it when the song is finished. Some things are easier than others and I think this one is on its way to being a favorite. Until next time, brothers and sisters. Brett I'll leave you with a few nice views.
CITY OF CHAMPIONS TOUR
THE JULIANA THEORY will be heading out in Mar/Apr for a full US tour with their old hometown friends in ZAO, (some of you might recall that Brett was in Zao at one time). Also on the bill will be Open Hand and The Takeover UK. Sinai Beach and The Black Maria will be splitting up the 2nd slot on the bill. Dates will be announced shortly.
STUDIO DIARY 2005 - ENTRY #1
Is this the longest break ever between studio diaries while working on a record? I think it just may be. The reason for the silence was that I was sworn to secrecy about our recording. I’m not kidding. I wasn’t allowed to talk about it. Don’t ask why, because I can’t tell you. But I am not joking. So, I guess I am now permitted to talk about it again. Weird. We ’ve accomplished quite a lot since I last wrote and I am not about to get into it all now, but I will begin to explain in the next few entries. I can say this much; the music (as in the instrumentals) is recorded. Finished. Done. (Well, there might be a few tambourines and shakers and maybe a guitar noise here and there to lay down), but for the sake of saying it’s done, it’s done. Soooooooo, what now you say? The answer to that question is a two syllable word called Vo-cals. The weight of the world is on my shoulders. Or maybe it’s just the weight of the album. Either way, I ’m not a strong guy and my shoulders are getting a bit sore. I’ve taken to producing and engineering the vocals myself at the band’s home base in Greensburg, PA. Why? That’s a complicated question with a complicated answer. I’d say that it’s quite the challenge doing it this way and I’ll probably never want to hear the sound of my own voice ever again when this is all done. There are a lot of vocals to go. On to the bigger picture… Answers to the questions that might be asked: First, the record is not titled yet. Second, there is not a set date of when it will be finished yet. Third, it definitely does not have a release date right now. Oh yeah, I did not take a single photograph at the studio this time either. I took hundreds or more last time around and I thought I’d do almost every single thing differently this time around, so I took no pictures. I’ll post a couple pics here and there, but that’s all I can do. There are pictures I borrowed from other people like my buddy Jason Magnusson. Here are a few photos now… I missed you guys. Stay Tuned!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Hello there everyone. The first message of the year from the band is not as chipper as they usually are. I want to wish you all a Happy New Year from the Juliana Theory, and I hope that you had a wonderful holiday. However, I know there are a great number of people out there whose new year has been overshadowed by suffering. The disaster that our brothers and sisters overseas have felt from the tsunami seems almost unreal to me. It's hard for me to say something about this because the level of devestation is so high. Looking at the photos, it just seems like a terrible dream. I encourage all of you to do anything that you can to help out. If you visit musicforrelief.org or redcross.org you can donate money to help the victims. Even $5 helps. Times of great tradegy are when the human spirit is seen in all of its glory. People band together to help others that they don't know. That is what I'm encouraging you to do. Please do what you can to help.
