HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday. The new year is finally here - and with that comes the inevitable year-end lists. You can check out Brett's Top Albums list here. Post your lists too! We want to know what you're listening to.
Our friends at Conglomerate Films in Australia put together a cool short documentary film on last summer's Australian tour. We hope to have it up on the site for download in the next week or so. Keep checking back.
Message from the band [comments]:
Wow. It's the end of the year already and I wanted to say Happy Holidays to you all. We had a busy year of playing shows: We played the entire United States twice, with the East Coast one more time. We also played Canada and Australia in there all since January 11. To everyone who came out to see us at any of those shows, thank you so much. We loved playing for you. To all of our friends in the tons of bands we have played with this year: we miss you all!
The majority of the past 2 months has been spent working on new material. I don't want to get into that too much, but I might as well tell you all a little bit…
I sit here, STEEPED in new TJT songs. I have not left the demo studio in 7 days now. I've been working really hard just writing and recording vocals and mixing demos. Maybe my perspective is a bit askew at this point, but I know this much: This is the largest collection of new, finished songs that the band has EVER had going into making a record (and we are not finished writing yet). It might be a few more months until we even start recording, but we have more new completed songs now than when we recorded Emotion is Dead, or Love, or any of our other records. As of right now, the songs sort of run the gamut musically. Almost all of them have a lot more energy than most of our old stuff. Some of them sound like a whole new direction for the band, and some sound strikingly more vintage Juliana than anything we have done in the last couple years. Quite a few are somewhere in between. We just really want to write good songs. Pretty much, that is all we care about these days. (You might have heard a few of our newer tunes on our last tour, but we have written quite a few since then). I can honestly say that the lyrics are coming from a much better place right now than they were coming from on the Love record. I seem to be writing from a very "connected" place. I don't know how else to explain it, but the new songs have lyrics that are much more attached to how I have been feeling than the more "detached" feel in our last record and the Music From Another Room ep. I am very happy with the place that the lyrics are coming from. Like I said, I can't really overanalyze these new songs too much, but I think some of them are pretty cool. I know we are excited about them.
Well anyways, we look forward to hitting the studio again and then hitting the road as well. 2004 holds a lot in store.
We wish you all a great holiday season, and we thank you for all of the love and support.
Brett and the Juliana Theory
Thanks to all of you for making every tour this year so much fun. There were a lot of really great memories and new friends made on the road. The band members are all back at home now following the fall tour, resting and spending some rare time with friends and family. In the year-plus since recording the LOVE album the band has been on tour almost nonstop - playing over 250 shows around the world. The guys will be taking a break from the road for awhile to spend the next several months writing and recording their next album. Those of you who saw the band on tour this fall might have gotten a little preview of what the next record will sound like - they debuted some brand new songs, including: "French Kiss-Off", "Over The Earth", "Temptations With A Sharp Dagger", "Opposite Parallel Poles", "Dear Denial", "The Gossip" and "Blameshifter".
Here's a few fun stats on the last 16 months of touring - thanks for all of your love and support. We'll see you next year!:

MORE TOUR NEWS
I just got back from visiting the band on the road for the last several days. I saw some awesome shows in Charlotte, ASU, Columbia and Atlanta. Thanks to all of the kids who came out to the shows and rocked with us. I was so psyched to hear the band play some of the new songs: "French Kiss-Off" (my favorite at the moment), "Opposite Parallel Poles", "Dear Denial" and "Temptations With a Sharp Dagger". If you get to see the band on this tour, you'll most likely hear at least one brand new song and lots of your favorites from all of the band's studio albums. The shows I saw last week were among some of the best TJT shows I've seen over the last few years. Don't miss them if they're coming anywhere near you on this run.
Some sad news: our pals Count The Stars are not going to be able to return to the tour next week as we had hoped. The band is still recovering from the injuries they sustained in a van wreck several days ago. Copeland will be taking CTS' place for the rest of the tour beginning this Saturday 9/20. Until then, you can still catch Unsung Zeros holding down the opening slot. In other tour news, the Oct 3 show in Brooklyn has been moved to North Six. All tickets for Warsaw will be honored. Check the TOUR page for details.
Make sure you check out the new Celebrity video for "Disconnected" - it's awesome. Thanks for reading.
UPDATE FROM THE ROAD
As you may have heard, our friends in Count The Stars were involved in a serious van accident over the weekend en route to a show in Pennsylvania. Luckily, all of the CTS band and crew members are ok and at home recuperating. As a result, they will be forced to miss the next few shows on our tour. Our thoughts are with them and we wish them a speedy recovery and hope they're able to rejoin the tour soon. In the meantime, a band from Florida called Unsung Zeros will be playing this week's shows in CTS' place. We'll be selling Count The Stars merch for the band at our shows this week - buying their merch is a great way to support the band and help them get back on their feet!
On a happier note, all of the shows have been amazing so far on this tour. Our good friends in Celebrity meet up with us today for the rest of the tour. We're having a blast meeting so many of you at the shows. We've been playing some brand new unreleased songs as well as breaking out some old ones we haven't played in a long time. This is also the first tour that we've brought our keyboards on stage for. Thanks to all of you who've been making this tour so incredible. See you all soon!
The setlists for a couple of last weeks shows have just been posted. Check them out: 9/4 HARTFORD - WEBSTER THEATRE 9/5 NEW JERSEY - KROME
MESSAGE FROM THE BAND
I just thought I'd spend a few minutes to write you all a hello before we leave for tour again. We have been home for the past 6 weeks, writing and demoing new songs. It's been a nice time, and we are very excited about the new songs. Most of us are starting to get antsy for tour though too. It has been some time now since we have headlined a full set of dates in the US. We are looking forward to playing a bit longer of a set list this time around and coming out to hang with everyone again. This tour promises our most balanced set list ever. Along with one brand new tune each night, we will be playing a good cross section of songs from all of our different releases. We have even finally listened to the requests of a good deal of our die hard fans who have been asking to hear a couple particular songs from "Understand this is a Dream" that we rarely play. I'm not going to give it all away, but I will say this, there are two songs that people have been asking for 4 years to hear live, that are finally going to make appearances on this tour. We are also amped to have our friends in Hopesfall, Punchline, and Celebrity out on the road with us, as well as guys who I am sure will be friends of ours in no time- Count the Stars. Tomorrow is our final full production rehearsal at an unnamed venue in Pittsburgh, and then we depart for Rhode Island on Tuesday. This tour promises to be a fun time and we look forward to seeing you all out there on the road. Happy Labor Day!
Rock and Roll,
Brett and The Juliana Theory
